Pete Filmer - Sculptor
Art & Design
AUSTRALIA

Sculptures, wooden hats, turned bowls, large installations, public exhibits, monuments, needlecraft tools and carved boxes are designed and produced by Peter Filmer with an eye for grace, line, art and design. Private collectors and corporations value his work, adding to their own collections or as gifts to clients.

He is a sculptor inspired by the beauty of the Australian Alpine area in which he lives. His workshop is situated on the slopes of the Murrumbidgee River backed by the Clear Range.

Peter produces art valued by collectors throughout the world. The Australia Staff is an example of his carving, which was commissioned to feature over one hundred Australian flora, fauna and traditional scenes carved onto a Rosewood staff.

He shares his workshop with native and domestic animals that chose to spend their days in the sunny spots of his workshop. The aged Shetland pony Basil, stands at the front door trying to convince Pete pears and apples are the basic diet of a horse and the kangaroo Poppet shares the heater on cold days, often needing a reassuring pat.

Pete works in rare wood, personally collecting the timber, travelling to Tasmania and western New South Wales to access wood that has been felled for other purposes. He acknowledges the tree's value to the ecology while producing items for generations to treasure.

It is amazing how much help you need from a horse.
